Dispute Resolution Service Model
Mediation Model Practice Guidelines
The mediation model developed by the OPA Dispute Resolution Service takes a right based approach adhering to the principles of the Advance Care Directives Act 2013. The model is person centred and places the person who made the advance care directive, or who has the health issue, at the centre of the decision making process. The model provides support to enable the participation of the person to the full extent of his or her abilities. The model ensures that the thoughts, views and wishes of the person are brought into the mediation even if he or she is not able to take part directly in the mediation.
Declaration Service Model
The OPA Declaration Model is designed to uphold the rights of the person who made the advance care directive. The process will begin with the presumption that the person has decision making capacity. The model is person centred and places the person who made the advance care directive at the centre of the decision making process, providing support to enable the participation of the person to the full extent of their abilities.
